TERMS & CONDITIONS OF RENTALS

Deposits and final payments

To secure a rental booking we require a 10% deposit payable by credit card. The balance of the hire is payable 30 days from your pick up date. This can be paid by credit card, bank deposit (NZ only) or international bank transfer. Details of our bank account are below and will be on the invoice you receive from us after payment of the deposit. Banks in New Zealand charge 2% for online credit card transactions and this will be passed on to the customer if the credit card option is used. The deposit is non-refundable and will be deducted from the total price. Immediately after Motorent.NZ has received the deposit, a confirmation invoice of the booking will be emailed. The remaining balance is then due 30 days prior to the pick up date.

Our bank account details are:

Cancellations and refunds

Customers can cancel their rental booking at any time. Cancellations must be received in writing via email. If you cancel your rental booking the following will apply:

• Cancellations received more than 60 days prior to the departure date are subject to a cancellation fee of the initial 10% deposit.
• Cancellations received between 30-59 days in advance are subject to a fee of 30% of the total rental cost, and cancellations received 14-30 days in advance are subject to a fee of 50% of the total rental.
• If a cancellation is received less than 14 days prior to departure date, the full 100% of the rental is payable and no exceptions to the above can be made. Bookings are transferable. Please look into cancellation insurance, it is highly recommended.

Motorent.NZ will endeavour wherever possible to re-allocate dates should a customer have to cancel a rental for unforeseen circumstances. We also strongly advise clients to insure against possible cancellation.

Motorent.NZ is not required to give any refunds once a rental has started, regardless of the reason for the participant/s being unable to complete the hire period. No refunds are payable on any unused accommodation, motorcycle rental or any part of the hire which is unused. A good travel insurance policy is highly recommended. Travel insurance can also be taken by the customer to cover the excess amount on any hire vehicle.

Motorcycle rental operator

Motorent.NZ operates from Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand.

Local Taxes – (Goods & Services Tax)

Goods and services tax (GST) is a sales tax which is currently 15%. GST is included in all prices.

Luggage

All our motorcycles have luggage options. In most cases this is Touratech and Givi hard lockable luggage consisting of a top box and two side panniers of 36 litre capacity each.

Customers Personal Luggage

We often store customers travel cases when they hire motorcycles from us. We also transport them to Christchurch or Auckland on one way hires (extra charge).

Licence Requirements & Experience

Most overseas licences are valid for use in New Zealand; the same restrictions will apply as in the country of origin. Riders must be 25 years of age or over and have at least one year’s riding experience. Licences must have a motorcycle endorsement. If the customer’s licence does not have a motorcycle endorsement, an international driving permit will be required. If in doubt, please get an international driver’s licence. Please note we are unable to provide hire on a Learner Licence or for local driving tests. We are able to hire on Restricted Licences.

We expect you to be an experienced motorcyclist and actively riding. If you are planning a tour of five days or longer, we recommend that you undertake a pre-tour ride at home with a similar amount of luggage on your motorcycle to what you would bring with you. Luggage does alter the handling dynamics of a motorcycle. Based on our experience, the more you tour the less luggage you take and the more accustomed you are to the additional weight.

Passports and visas

The customer or the customer’s travel agent is responsible for all necessary documentation associated with entry into New Zealand.

Travel Agents

We welcome enquiry from retail and wholesale travel agents who will be invoiced net of commission payable.

Default or damage

Motorent.NZ (the owner) shall have the right to terminate the rental of any person or persons and take immediate possession of the motorcycle if the hirer fails to comply with any of the terms of the rental agreement or if the motorcycle is damaged. The termination of the hire under the authority of this clause shall be without prejudice to the other rights of the owner and the rights of the hirer under the agreement or otherwise.

Medical Insurance

Under New Zealand law you cannot be sued for personal injury or death. ACC (Accident Compensation Commission) prevents claims for bodily injury or death by accident. However, we have public liability cover for NZ $1,000,000 for damage to personal property and injury as a result of an accident on our motorcycles. Once again, we recommend that all of our customers arrange travel and personal insurance for their vacation.

Responsibility

Motorent.NZ does not assume responsibility for bodily injury, nor for any damage or loss to personal effects. Motorent.NZ will not be responsible or liable for speeding infringements and or parking tickets, weather, acts of God or any other circumstances beyond its control. Nor shall Motorent.NZ be responsible or liable for delay, loss, damage or injury to person or property and illness incurred during their stay in connection with, or relating to, the supply or omission of air, sea, land transportation services or of accommodation, meals, facilities, entertainment or other services provided by Motorent.NZ.
